When I was in high school, I got criticized because of my clothes. As much as I want to wear nice clothes, my insecurities has dominated my style. I’ve always been on the heavy side so I thought my clothing options are limited. Not to mention my financial stability– I was always broke too! Good thing I already get pass through that stage of my life. I’m still on the heavy side, but I don’t let it stop me. I love dressing up and I believe that my weight should not compromise my style. Sadly, I know that some women still have the mindset I had 12 years ago. The good news is, we can always work on our insecurities, all we need is a support group. With that being said, I’d like to introduce to you one of the girls I look up to who will teach us a thing or two about confidence and fashion. Let’s welcome this week’s WCW: Joelle.
Joelle is a fashion blogger, devout Catholic, wife and mom of a two year old boy. She inspires women of Edmonton, Alberta through her fashion blog called Clothes But Not Quite. I met Joelle through mutual friends/fellow bloggers and her style is very noticeable. It could be described as whimsical yet chic. Patterns and colours are her game, however, she also tries out latest trends from time to time. Joelle’s favourite clothing pieces are skirts, dresses and hats.
Joelle has always been in love with fashion. But before being a fashion blogger, she was once an ordinary person. Maybe not as good as we thought. At about two years old, she embarrassed her parents by wearing dresses with rubber boots and not doing up buttons properly on her cardigans. She might probably looked cute but she thought it was very unfashionable. Since then, our fashionista played with clothes by mixing and matching. Joelle also gets inspirations from Elie Saab and Pinterest.
Each day she makes a conscious decision to not care about everyone thinks of her. The moment she gained her confidence, everything just started falling into place.”Even if you strive for perfection, someone will just hate you because you look perfect! So I just be me”, she added. The fashion blogger is an independent woman who always expresses her thoughts and ideas. She didn’t let her flaws hinder her love for clothes. Now, she’s one of the women people look up to, when it comes to dressing up.
Being stylish comes from within. You don’t need to be a fashion blogger to be stylish, you don’t even have to be rich to buy expensive clothes. What we need is to love our own style and let go of our inhibitions. You’re on the heavy side? So what? You’re too skinny? SO WHAT?! Once you overcome these insecurities, who knows? You might be the next Joelle Forest!
